Kidding aside it’s important to be mindful of opportunities no matter when they occur. Whether you are astute enough to foresee the future, or you are responding to an event that you didn’t expect, there are going to be ways to improve. As a network specialist your biggest challenge is always going to be the perceived ROI on any given solution you suggest. An interesting side effect of the ‘during’ approach is that for many organizations, there is suddenly money available to be able to do something when you are in the thick of battle. Don’t squander those chances. Make them count – whether you roll into a small sideways strategic add on that will enhance the over all deliverability of a particular solution, or a reordering of your roadmap items to take advantage of the heightened visibility these events tend to generate. You should take every opportunity and make it as beneficial as possible.
